Kyoto!

On my second trip to Japan, I concentrated on learning as much as possible about Kyoto. My stay at The Hotel Mitsui, a Marriott Luxury Collection property, was outstanding. The hotel is rich in both contemporary and ancient art and the underground onsen experience was particularly memorable. The hotel offers many activities on-site, including a tea ceremony, Ikebana flower arranging, and wellness sessions. The hotel offers a bountiful breakfast buffet overlooking the hotel’s interior gardens.

The hotel is an easy walk to Nijo Castle where we were met with a private guide for our in-depth tour of the grounds and buildings. Highlights of this trip included entertainment at the hotel by a Geisha and instrumentalist, lunch at a monastery, shopping for Kyoto-made ceramics and pottery, and dinner and drinks at a local bar/pub.
